John Gosden believes Pinatubo will "terrify people" if bidding to crown his unblemished juvenile campaign with victory in the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket next month.

Charlie Appleby's colt has carried all before him since making a winning debut at Wolverhampton in early May – winning the Woodcote at Epsom, the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Vintage at Goodwood before stepping up to Group One level at the Curragh last Sunday.

His nine-length demolition job in the National Stakes is already being hailed as one of finest juvenile performances of recent times and Gosden admits he is likely to frighten away many of his contemporaries if lining up on the Rowley Mile on October 12.

Gosden, speaking at the launch of The Newmarket Gold Season, said: "Pinatubo is named after a Philippines volcano and he certainly exploded like one at the Curragh!

"I think if he turns up in the Dewhurst he will terrify people, (but) what better way to crown a champion two-year-old and 2000 Guineas favourite?

"You could end up with a small field in the Dewhurst, but if you end up with a champion, that is what it is about.

"It was an unbelievable performance. When horses come along like that it is great and so exciting."
