Departed at same fence Sam Spinner blundered

Harriet Graham reports Aye Right  to be none the worse after unseating his rider at Doncaster on Saturday.

The six-year-old was the outsider of three runners in the bet365 December Novices' Chase, with the pre-race discussion focusing on a clash between Jedd O'Keeffe's Grade One-winning hurdler Sam Spinner and the highly regarded Windsor Avenue from Brian Ellison's yard.

However, Aye Right was still in contention on what was his debut over fences when parting company with Callum Bewley six fences from the finish – the same obstacle at which eventual winner Sam Spinner made a shuddering error, but Joe Colliver managed to keep the partnership intact.

Graham said of Aye Right: "He's absolutely fine. Sam Spinner diving like he did didn't help, but I just think we were unlucky and he was lucky.

"He (Aye Right) was jumping brilliantly up to that point and we know he stays well. We'll never know if he'd have given Sam Spinner a run for his money or not.

"We'll try and find another novice chase for him over the Christmas and New Year period. That ground was lovely for him the other day and I wouldn't want to run him on heavy or very soft ground."
