Bangkok  looks like heading for the Betway Winter Derby following his victory in the official trial for the race at Lingfield on Saturday.

At this stage, the Group Three contest on February 22 is the probable objective, although trainer Andrew Balding has given the four-year-old colt a nominal entry for the inaugural running of the $20million Saudi Cup at Riyadh seven days later.

However, the new race is by invitation only and with a maximum field of 14 allowed for the dirt prize over nine furlongs, places will be at a premium.

"He's seems to have come out of the race well," said Balding.

"I need to discuss it with the owners. I think the likelihood is we'll go to the Winter Derby at the end of the month.

"We haven't actually had an invitation for Saudi Cup. It looks like a very strong entry, so it's a possibility we won't. It's not even an option at the moment. If it becomes an option, we might rethink."
