The going for day two of Royal Ascot 2020, Wednesday, June 17 remains:

Royal Ascot began yesterday on Good to Soft ground, changing to the above descriptions after Tuesday's penultimate contest, the G2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes (4.10pm).

Weather

It has been dry since racing on Tuesday. There was 10 millimetres of rain in the form of thundery showers on Monday evening. There is a warm start to Wednesday with thundery showers expected to develop in the afternoon. Rain showers are forecast for Thursday. Friday and Saturday look set to be drier, with the risk of occasional showers.

Chris Stickels, Clerk of the Course at Ascot, said this morning: "The ground dried nicely through the day yesterday, having had 10 millimetres the night before. We had a few spots of rain yesterday but we were lucky that we didn't get a thunderstorm. The track rode really well, so I was pleased with that, and there were some great performances. On the whole, it went pretty smoothly, it was just eerily quiet. 

"I changed the going yesterday and it is now Good on the straight course, and Good, Good to Soft in Places on the round course. It may dry a bit further today if we don't get any showers. The forecast is for some thundery showers to develop as they day goes on, so we might see a bit of rain later. 

"We have a rail out on the round course, so we are three yards out from nine furlongs out until the home straight. That is to save some ground for the last three days of the meeting, so that rail will come down after racing today to provide some fresh ground for tomorrow. We are at full-width on the straight course for the whole week."
