Chris Stickels, Clerk of the Course at Ascot, said at 9.00am: "It was dry after racing yesterday evening, up until 4.00am, when it started to rain lightly. We have had nearly a millimetre since racing yesterday and most of that has been this morning.
"We have dried up a little on the Straight Course since yesterday and it is now Good to Soft. It is Soft, Good to Soft in places on the Round Course.
"The rain ahead of and during racing on Thursday really got into the ground and I was actually surprised quite how well the track has taken it. In the Gold Cup, Ryan Moore led the field and shunned the rail, so it is not as worn as I expected it to be.
"Any rain should clear by this afternoon."
The forecast for Saturday is for drier conditions, with the risk of occasional showers.
