Bataash should get a knighthood if horses were given such honours.  He put in an amazing performance right from the start, doing his own thing and leaving the rest of the field to admire his rear quarters. He seemed to be in his own space and doing what he does best – leading.  And winning.  And breaking records.  For the history books Charlie Hills did the training and Jim Crowley the steering, not that he had to do much of that. And for the records Glass Slippers was second and Ornate third.

Earlier Tom Marquand broke his sequence of seconds when One Master, a daughter of Fastnet Rock, won the Oak Tree with our roughie Valeria Messalina providing the quinella with Althiqa third and Breathtaking Look fourth.

The Bonhams saw Marquand revert to the second placers on My Oberon as the win went to the Charlie Hills trained Tilsit with Ryan Moore in the irons. Start of a top race double for Hills.  Third went to Khaloosy.

Closing out the Group action Tom Marquand picked up another winner with Pablo Escobarr who won the L'Omarins Queen's Plate Glorious Stakes with William Haggas again the trainer.  Desert Encounter was second and Le Don de Vie third.

Saturday was supposed to be the day when the public – albeit a limited number of them – could return to watch racing live instead of behind closed doors.  Alas that hope came crashing down when the PM delayed this stage of opening up.  The Goodwood people had put a lot of thought and a lot of money into making arrangements that would satisfy the public and the health people but it's not going to happen.

What will happen is the G2 Lillie Langtry for f&m over 2800m.  Unfortunately only four going to post with Jim Crowley riding Enbihaar for John Gosden who is on top on 6/5 and Manuela de Vega considered the main threat on 5/2.
