Spencer colt takes drop in class after St Leger effort.

Tyson Fury  will try to make the most of a drop in company as he lines up in the Charlie Waller Trust Novice Stakes at Ascot.

The son of Iffraaj made quite a splash when running out a cosy 20-1 winner on his racecourse bow at Doncaster in July – and despite having to miss his first planned return to Town Moor because of unsuitable ground, he did head there again for last month's St Leger.

Tyson Fury finished ninth behind Galileo Chrome in the Doncaster Classic, but trainer Richard Spencer was far from disheartened by that 12-length defeat and feels further experience will stand his charge in good stead.

He said: "Obviously it's a drop in class back to a novice, under a penalty, but he ran a good race in the St Leger on only his second start – and he's come out of that very well.

"Hopefully he can run a nice race and get a bit more experience.

"The way the year has panned out, we've not really been able to do what we wanted to – but he was certainly not disgraced in the Leger, when they didn't really got quick enough for him."

Spencer is confident Tyson Fury will continue to progress.

The Newmarket trainer added: "He's very much still learning his trade, and we wanted to get another run into him this year with the future in mind.

"There is another option for him before the end of the year, but we'll see how we get on at Ascot before making any plans.

"The handicapper has given him a mark of 103, and I think he's very much a horse to look forward to next year."

Tyson Fury is one of six runners in the 12-furlong heat – along with Gratot, Cadeau D'Or, Duck And Vanish, Golden Rules and Made For Minds.

Leger form is also on show in the Teentech Noel Murless Stakes, with Doncaster second Berkshire Rocco switching to Listed company for Andrew Balding.

Beaten just a neck by Galileo Chrome, Berkshire Rocco has a mark of 116 – which puts him 14lb ahead of the next best, Albaflora, whose career highlight to date came when second in the Musidora back in July.

Without A Fight is on a roll for Simon and Ed Crisford, with three wins on the bounce, while Balding's second string Table Mountain completes the field.
