Zambella  overcame a blunder at the final obstacle to make a winning debut over fences in the Bangor On Dee Racecourse Mares' Novice Chase at the Welsh track.

The five-year-old did not get very high at the last – but she lost little momentum and galloped on strongly to the line to take the Listed honours.

Only Stormy Ireland, the 5-6 favourite, stood between Zambella (13-2) and victory from two out, and the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained mare had enough left in the tank after that mistake to score by a length and a quarter in the hands of Daryl Jacob.

The leading pair drew 11 lengths clear of another Twiston-Davies runner, Vienna Court, in third.

"She takes a bit of riding," Jacob told Sky Sports Racing.

"She's very honest and she takes you there. At every fence I tried to get her underneath me and she popped them really nicely and made a nice shape, but it was one of those at the last. That was her trait over hurdles unfortunately. When you're not nursing her round that's what she does.

"She lost a little momentum at the back of the last, but then I got her going again.

"One thing about her is she's very hardy. She'll keep trying, she'll keep going and fight for all she's worth and that's what won it for her today."
