Local trainer targeting Sussex success.

Gary Moore is double-handed in his bid to win another Sky Sports Racing Sussex National at Plumpton on Sunday.

The locally-based trainer saddled successive winners of the race in 2013 and 2014, with Well Refreshed and Reblis striking gold.

This year Moore saddles Benevolentdictator and Cheque En Blanc, both of whom already have Plumpton victories to their credit.

Moore said: "I'd like to think they both go there with a chance. We'll see if they're up to that sort of standard or not.

"They both warrant being in the race, whether they're good enough is another thing. Time will tell.

"They've both won at Plumpton before and handle soft ground, so fingers crossed."

Charlie Mann is looking forward to seeing French recruit Defi Des Carres make his second start on British soil, having made a highly encouraging debut for his new connections when beaten a short head by Some Neck in the Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase at Cheltenham.

"He's not run over conventional fences over here. If he can translate that cross-country form to the regulation fence, he should have a chance," said the Lambourn handler.

"He'll like the ground – he's won on soft ground in France. He was a bit unlucky at Cheltenham, so hopefully he can do a bit better.

"Hopefully he'll be going back to Cheltenham for the Festival, but there are only three cross-country races in a year.

"We might go for the Pardubicka actually later in the year. He's probably the closest candidate I've had to a horse that could win it, so we might do that later on."

The Oliver Sherwood-trained Seaston Spirit returns to chasing following a 21-length victory over hurdles at Ffos Las.

Other contenders include David Bridgwater's Salty Boy and Dawson City from Polly Gundry's yard.
