Clive Cox is giving Tis Marvellous  a second shot at winning Doncaster's Unibet Cammidge Trophy.

The seven-year-old was fourth to Invincible Army in Saturday's Listed contest in 2019, on one of his attempts up at six furlongs.

Just one of his five career victories has come at this trip, with the other four over shorter.

However, Cox reports the son of Harbour Watch to be ready for his return – and he is happy to let him take his chance, although he would not want the ground to deteriorate.

"Tis Marvellous, although he won on soft ground at Leicester last year, would not want it to rain too much," said the Lambourn trainer.

"He was an admirable performer last year.

"There's a lack of five-furlong races. But he's in fine form, hence the reason we're letting him have a go here."

In contrast, Charlie Fellowes will be delighted to see some rain for his Chiefofchiefs.

"A bit of rain would do him no harm," said the Newmarket handler.

"He's in great form, (and) his work is good. He's a horse that is very good fresh. He won the Wokingham consolation race first up last year.

"The owners have his sister, so we'd love to get some black type, and Doncaster is a track that would suit him.

"He ran well in the Listed race last year (Wentworth Stakes in November), finishing fourth when he was unlucky not to get third. He was fast finishing.

"Jamie Spencer rides for the first time, and they could be a well-matched pairing."

Karl Burke runs Ainsdale who ended last season on a winning note at Newmarket.

"He's very much a sprinter on an upward curve, but he wants a bit of cut in the ground. As long as it is safe he'll run," said Burke.

Among popular old sprinters in the line-up are Kevin Ryan's Group One winner Brando, Stewards' Cup scorer Summerghand from David O'Meara's stable and Richard Fahey's Group Two victor Mr Lupton.
