Mare Australis  made all the running to take Group One honours in the Prix Ganay at ParisLongchamp.

The four-year-old colt, having only the sixth run of his career, justified the faith of connections by running his rivals into the ground to give trainer Andre Fabre a seventh success in the race.

Pierre-Charles Boudot set his stall out from the start, but Christophe Soumillon on the Aidan O'Brien-trained Mogul was watching his every move and the winner's stablemate Magny Cours – third in the Dubai World Cup when last seen – not far behind.

When the tempo quickened in the straight, Mare Australis found an extra gear and pulled away in impressive style.

Gold Trip claimed second place, a length and three-quarters away with Mogul the same distance back in third.

"I thought he could be a Arc horse potentially," Fabre told Sky Sports Racing.

"He's started to come to hand so obviously he's a candidate for those big races. He's just as good at a mile and a half as he is at 10 furlongs. He's just been backward.

"I don't know if he's coming to run in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud or something like that or just a prep race then the Arc. We'll see."

Mare Australis was cut to 25-1 from 66-1 for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe with Betfair and Paddy Power.
