Bolton Abbey  provided George Boughey with his 13th two-year-old winner of the season in the whichbookie.co.uk Free Racing Tips Maiden Stakes at Brighton.

The 11-2 shot seemed to be in an unpromising position at the furlong pole – but after switching to the outside, he displayed an impressive turn of foot under Mark Crehan to accelerate past his rivals.

The son of Holy Roman Emperor crossed the line half-a-length ahead of 6-4 favourite Super Cub.

"The boss said he wants a bit further, but we decided we'd give it a go here at Brighton," Crehan told Sky Sports Racing.

"They did go quick early, and I was off the bridle most of the way, but he's done it nicely in the end.

"I know it's his third run, but he's still a bit green. Next time you'll see a different horse again, I think."

George Baker's Mamillius cemented his reputation as a Brighton specialist when claiming the whichbookie.co.uk Free Bets Handicap.

A photo finish was required to determine the outcome, after the eight-year-old crossed the line alongside fellow 9-2 chance Typhoon Ten.

It was a third Brighton victory for Mamillius, to add to his seven placed performances there, as he edged out the runner-up by just a nose under Pat Cosgrave.

"He used to be quite a difficult ride, but in the last year he's become a bit more straightforward," said Cosgrave.

"If anything I probably got there too soon, but I thought the leader was having an easy time of it and I didn't want to let them have a freebie all the way.

"When I pulled up I actually thought I'd won by a head."

Jockey Liam Jones had his first winning ride in 18 months when Enough Already prevailed by a neck in the whichbookie.co.uk Bookmaker Reviews Handicap at 16-1, for trainer Lee Carter.

A serious injury sustained after an accident in the stalls at Chelmsford in 2019 was career-threatening – but after rehabilitation at Peter O'Sullevan House in Newmarket, Jones returned to the saddle earlier this season.

"I haven't ridden a winner for a year and half after my injury, so it's just nice to be among the winners again," he said.

"He's done it really well.

"It probably suited me – they went fast, and I finished off my race quite well.

"I maybe got there a little bit too soon, because he had a little look, but I think he's an honest horse and he'll be on the up."

Grace McEntee rode from the front to claim division one of the whichbookie.co.uk Free Football Tips Handicap aboard Contingency Fee (9-1), her seventh win aboard the six-year-old trained by her father Phil.

Division two was won by Stuart Williams' Dawn View, who prevailed by two and a quarter lengths at 11-4 under Marco Ghiani.

The whichbookie.co.uk Best For Racing Handicap went the way of Tony Carroll's Foresee, the 7-1 winner under Ray Dawson.

After the race, the stewards imposed an 11-day ban on Georgia Dobie for "using her whip above the permitted level and without time to respond" on runner-up Lady Elysia – who was beaten just a nose in a driving finish.

Dawson completed a double when Robert Cowell's 6-4 favourite Carbon Positive broke his duck by winning the closing whichbookie.co.uk Betting Offers Handicap by a neck.
