British raider Rebel's Romance  has been ruled out of the Belmont Stakes because of an infection.

Trained by Charlie Appleby, Rebel's Romance won both his juvenile starts in Britain last year, triumphing on the all-weather at Kempton and Newcastle before heading to the Dubai Carnival at Meydan.

The Dubawi gelding won the UAE 2000 Guineas Trial but could finish only fourth in the Saudi Derby, before heading back to Meydan where he claimed the UAE Derby on World Cup night in March.

Rebel's Romance has been in America since the start of May to prepare for Saturday's Belmont, but he will not line up in the final leg of the Triple Crown.

Owner Godolphin tweeted: "Unfortunately Rebel's Romance will not be declared for this Saturday's G1 Belmont Stakes due to an infection in his hind leg.

"We hope this is only a minor setback and we look forward to seeing him back on the racecourse in the near future."
