Christophe Soumillon gets ride back on Tarnawa for Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe

Christophe Soumillon will ride big-race favourite Tarnawa in the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, recapturing the mount from Colin Keane who rode her to victory in the Breeders’ Cup Turf.

Soumillon, who is retained by the mare's owner the Aga Khan, had to give up the mount to Keane at Keeneland last November when he tested positive for COVID-19.

But he will be back in the saddle when she returns to ParisLongchamp where the pair won the Prix Vermeille and Prix de l'Opera together last year.

Trainer Dermot Weld, quoted by the Irish Times, said: "Christophe Soumillon will ride Tarnawa in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. He knows the filly well and he is His Highness' retained jockey in France."

Soumillon's two Arc victories have come in the Aga Khan silks, on Dalakhani in 2003 and the filly Zarkava in 2008.

Under a new arrangement to ride for Weld this year when not required by Ger Lyons, Keane has continued to ride Tarnawa this year. He guided her to victory in the G3 Ballyroan Stakes and an unlucky second place behind St Mark's Basilica in the G1 Irish Champion Stakes.
