Plenty of speculation has been floating about who will get the leg up on Mostahdaf in the Juddmonte International at York later this month, with Shadwell's retained rider Jim Crowley being forced to miss the ride after picking up a 20-day ban for his winning ride aboard Hukum in the King George.

The John and Thady Gosden-trained colt could hardly have been more impressive when winning the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot in June and is a 4/1 chance with Paddy Power for the feature on day one of the York Ebor Festival.

Frankie Dettori has been booked to ride Mostahdaf on the back of partnering the five-year-old on Saturday morning.

Shadwell's racing manager Angus Gold said: "John [Gosden] put Frankie on him this morning and said, 'I think Frankie's the man', so he will ride him at York."

"He had a sit on him this morning and seemed very happy with the horse. We'll try and keep him in one piece and then they'll both be reunited at York."

It will be a rare ride in the Shadwell silks for Dettori, but the Italian has enjoyed previous success when sporting the blue and white stripes over the years.

He added: "He obviously won on Sakhee back in the day and more recently I remember him winning the Greenham at Newbury on Muhaarar [2015].

"He's ridden plenty for us over the years and it will be very nice to hopefully give him a decent ride in his final year."

Aidan O'Brien's superstar Paddington heads the market at a general 6/4 while Epsom Derby hero Desert Crown (7/2) will be hoping he can make a return to the track having missed his previous target in the King George at Ascot.

Gold said: "It's a fantastic race, as it should be. Let's hope they are all there in one piece."
