Vicki Gibbins’ Horse Racing Tips Today

3 minute read

With two winners in yesterday’s tipping column, we give you another three selections for Friday’s racing…

Today's horse racing tips.
Today's horse racing tips.

For our first tip, we head to Ascot for the  7f Charbonnel Et Walker British EBF Maiden Stakes (2:25), where the Aidan O'Brien-trained Kestrel is current favourite as the sole runner for the Ballydoyle yard on Friday. The team sent out their first runner (and winner) at Salisbury for eighteen years on Thursday, and Kestrel's participation has undoubtedly caught the eye of many punters.

That said, Saeed bin Suroor's Olympic Candle has the benefit of a racecourse start and is expected to improve for his debut performance. The Profitable colt out-ran market expectations (20/1) when third in a thirteen runner seven furlong Newbury maiden and was always firmly in contention under a confident ride from Kieran Shoemark. The top two from that race are yet to run again (second-placed Fire Demon is short-priced favourite for a race at Kempton on Friday night), but the form appears solid enough. Oisin Murphy has been booked for the ride and he looks the pick to over-turn what will be a short-priced favourite in Kestrel.

SELECTION – OLYMPIC CANDLE – 5/2

Remaining at Ascot, Oisin Murphy boasts a strong book of rides and the day could start off well in the 6f Events At Ascot Christmas Parties British EBF Restricted Novice Stakes (1:50). Miss Information is one of the most experienced runners in the field and has placed on her last two outings. Despite having no involvement on debut at Newmarket, the Blue Point filly improved to finish runner-up at Salisbury on her second outing. Although this contest represents a far sterner task than Miss Information has been used to, she appears to be progressing and is related to multiple winners. The dam Newsletter was successful as a juvenile and finished third in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot.

SELECTION - MISS INFORMATION - 6/1

Switching to Haydock, Lady Pagasa is the selection in the 6f Class 2 Oakmere Homes EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes (14:00). The Dark Angel filly has an eye catching pedigree as a daughter of Faradays Law, who was a full sister to Irish 1000 Guineas heroine Just The Judge. Lady Pagasa outran market expectations when runner up in a competitive novice stakes over seven furlongs at Newmarket's July course in late August. Although the filly races well in the early stages, she showed signs of inexperience in the closing two furlongs under Kieran Shoemark, becoming unbalanced before weakening in the final strides. The drop back to six furlongs is probably a positive and she is entitled to improve.

SELECTION - LADY PAGASA - 10/3
