Breeders' Cup remains an option for Al Husn

3 minute read

A visit to the States for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf for Al Husn could be on the cards, depending on a piece of work over the weekend.

The Roger Varian-trained Al Husn has taken some notable scalps this season, including a half-length victory over Nashwa in the G3 Hoppings Fillies' Stakes before defeating a high-class field in the Group 1 Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Although the Shadwell-owned filly failed to get involved over twelve furlongs in the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks, she produced a better performance to finish fourth in the Group 1 Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp over 'Arc' weekend.

The new Shadwell initiative to race horses for longer has reaped benefits this season and the team are aiming their sights at the Breeders' Cup.

"It's possible and something we are looking at," said Varian.

"She's going to do some serious work on the gallops this weekend and then I will be in discussion with the Shadwell team and Sheikha Hissa.

"We will judge her well-being and I think we would like to go if the filly looks like she will run up to her very best, which to be honest, it looks like she will because she looks terrific at the moment.

"We've got some homework to do with her first and then we can discuss it before making any commitments.

"We'll miss her when she's not around, she's been a great filly and won lots of races and she has gone up through the grades – handicaps, Listed, Group Three and then the Nassau Stakes.

"She's been a really great filly to be associated with."
