America's champion trainer Chad Brown dominated the Arlington Million meeting in Chicago on August 11.

Brown claimed the trifecta in the G1 Beverly D Stakes led by the impressive Sistercharlie before his Chilean import Robert Bruce charged home to beat his stable companion Almanaar in the G1 Arlington Million.

Robert Bruce rallied stoutly for his rider Irad Ortiz Jr to win by a half-length and immediately was presented with an invitation to the Japan Cup in Tokyo in November.

Robert Bruce also earned a berth in the Breeders' Cup Turf or Classic via his Million victory.

British raider Century Dream finished third but was disqualified to fourth for interference after he drifted in the stretch. Catcho En Die was promoted to third.

The favorite Oscar Performance was pulled up by jockey Jose Ortiz after he feared a serious injury and was walked into a horse ambulance.

Robert Bruce, owned and bred by Haras Convento Viejo, was undefeated in six starts in his native Chile including four G1 wins.

He won the G3 Fort Marcy Stakes at Belmont Park in May at his first US start for Brown then finished sixth in the G1 Manhattan Stakes on June 9.

"It's a tradition in Chile that the winner of the classics there is sent to the United States," said Haras Convento Viejo's Carlos Lavin.

"I hope we can open a market for Chilean horses in the United States."

In the three G1 races on the Arlington card Brown-trained horses finished second in the Secretariat for 3-year-olds; first, second, third, and fifth in the Beverly D. for fillies and mares; and first, second, and fifth in the Million.

Brown completed a four-timer in the Beverly D as the favourite Sistercharlie (John Velazquez) led home a clean sweep for America's champion trainer.

Brown, who has made his name largely with ex-European turf horses, was winning the $600,000 mares feature for the fifth time overall.

Runner-up in last season's Prix de Diane for her former trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre, the impressive Sistercharlie held off stablemates Fourstar Crook and Thais.

The UK and Irish runners failed to figure. The Mark Johnston-trained Nyaleti and Aidan O'Brien's Belmont Oaks winner Athena and were outrun in the stretch to finish sixth and seventh respectively.

In the Secretariat Stakes a five-strong Irish team could do no better than third place behind the shock 38-1 winner Carrick.

Trained by Tom Morley, Carrick beat odds-on favourite Analyze It while the Dermot Weld-trained Bandua did best of the Irish visitors in the $400,000 contest by finishing third nearly three lengths adrift of the winner.

Carrick’s win is a notable triumph for Tom Morley, a British expat who has been based in the US for several years.

The Joseph O'Brien-trained Ming was sixth, while Aidan O’Brien’s Hunting Horn and his Ballydoyle stablemate Lucius Tiberius were never factors.

Hunting Horn and Lucius Tiberius are among the entries for the $5 million WS Cox Plate at Moonee Valley but lok unlikely after their below-par performances.
