A Godolphin Cambridgeshire

3 minute read

It seemed like old times when Saeed bin Suroor and Jamie Spencer collected the trophy.

Spencer hadn't ridden for bin Suroor over the last 5 years but said the trainer saw him on the gallops the other day and realised he was still alive.  It turned out to be a great booking as Spencer is great at winning races from the rear and that is what happened in the Cambridgeshire when he brought Bedouin's Story 40/1 past the whole field to win and defeat the fancied and joint favourite Anmaat on 11/2 with Ametist third on 22/1 and fourth Zozimus on 100/1 so happy retirement to anyone who got the pick 4!

It was an exciting finish to the Royal Lodge when Royal Patronage decided not to wander all over the course and aim for the finishing post and put on such a turn of foot that he ran down Coroebus who had looked like he had the race well and truly in the bag until the last 2 metres! Royal Patronage is by Wootton Basset and the progeny have been doing very well of late.  Unconquerable wasn't and had to settle for third.

The Chevely Park was a very welcome surprise for Aidan O'Brien when his filly Tenebrism appreciated her return to racing by showing a lovely turn of foot and winning when first up for a long time.  Flotus ran second and Sandrine third.

Richard Fahey described his horse Perfect Power and jockey Christophe Soumillon as the "perfect pair" as they added the Middle Park to the Prix Morny in the trophy cabinet.  Soumillon was not deterred by the draw and as he did in Deauville settled Perfect Power at the rear of the field and then managed to produce him at the right time, despite a couple of stumbles in the dip.  Castle Star and Armour were the bridesmaids.
