Big Day at Chantilly for the Diane.

3 minute read

The Prix de Diane or French Oaks is the highlight of this card which also contains 4 G3 races of interest.

The weather looks favourable – there could be showers around but at this stage it looks as if they will come later in the day and otherwise a pleasant day with sunny intervals and a light breeze.

The G3s start off with the Paul du Moussac over 1600m and 7 starters.  Breitz Eagle is on evens here for Boisnard and A. Roussell, with the Fabre Godolphin runner Erasmo on 5/2 and Barzalona as usual in the irons.  Moai is 6/1 for Bary-Pasquier.

The Prix du Bois is for 2yo over 1200m and 10 due to line up.  Wesley Ward trains Napa Spirit and has booked Barzalona for the ride – they are on 11/4 but that looks a bit skinny compared to some talented locals.  Mountain Madness is on 10/3 and Dizzy Bizu 4/1.  We have a roughie here in Black Lives Matter on 22/1 for Kobayashi-Peslier.

Then we have the Diane – over 2100m and 17 3yo fillies will contest.  At present there are three runners sharing the lead – Burgarita, a Sea the Stars filly from the Fabre yard with Guyon riding, stablemate Philomene with Barzalona riding the Dubawi daughter, and Irish raider Joan of Arc – how appropriate – and Ioritz Menizabel riding the O'Brien runner who has a very nice draw – all are at 5/1.  Sibila Spain has captured the attention of many and this daughter of Frankel is on 6/1.  Christopher Head says he's not worried by the wide draw and will trust Lemaitre to take care of that.

Two more G3s – the Bertrand du Breuil over 1600m looks to be a fight between Jin Jin and Sagamiyra who have both won their last 5 outings, and the Prix du Lys over 2400m looks to be between Bubble Gift and Fenelon.
