Favourite go down at Sha Tin

3 minute read

It was not the happiest day of his career for Joao Moreiro on Sunday.

After looking so dapper in the promo for the bow-tie event, he had to look elsewhere after being beaten on the short priced favourite in both the G2 events.

The first of these was the Premier Bowl and despite having to race wide Lucky Patch was able to win from Super Wealthy and Stronger.  Favourite Courier Wonder was first up for a while and seemed like he wasn't quite there and the big Naboo Attack failed to fire.

In the Sha Tin Trophy it was the Chilean bred Panfield (Lookin At Lucky out of the Orpen mare Estarina II) who normally likes it a bit longer than the 1600m but was still too good for them.  Preciousship squeezed into second place and Tourbillon Diamond held on for third having vied for favouritism with Sky Darci.  Sky Darci did have a number of traffic problems but then it was that kind of a race.

In the Class 2s favourite C P Brave could only manage fourth which was a disappointment, with the win going to Celestial Power from Zebrowski who seems an honest type if not brilliant, and Flying Quest who was in a tight photo with C P Brave.

And in the lucky last – well lucky if you had picked Trillion Win to win and Lucky More to run second as Fantastic Treasure was only third and Fantastic Way fourth.

A return to the drawing board seems on the agenda for this week.
