Riding his father's Soldier, the pair won this race for the third time.
Mullins père also became the first trainer in a long time to win the Plate and the Hurdle in the same year.
Neil Mullholland's with Sam Twiston-Davies in the irons was second followed in by Cape Gentleman and Jesse Evans.
Earlier the Novice Chase saw a finish in line with the market, won by Fan de Blues (another Mullins-Townend winner) by a length from Gin On Lime and stablemate Bold Enough third.
Friday's highlight is the Galway Guiness Handicap Hurdle with a field of 20. Stratum recently won the Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot and returns to jumping here. Paul Townend rides for – guess who – Willie Mullins and they are on 3/1. Stablemates Jazzaway 6/1 and My Sister Sarah 17/2 who was second in this last year and ran well on Monday. We have a roughie here in Place des Vosges 14/1 for Mark Fahey and Ricky Doyle.
