3 minute read

Fortunately no dramas with the track today as a large crowd assembled for the biggest card in Broome racing-10 races starting at 11.30 local time.

As can be expected this time of the year the weather was perfect - sunny but not too hot with a light breeze coming of Roebuck Bay.

We caught up with former Queanbeyan jockey Nathan Stanley who has been coming here for some years after a Darwin trainer friend suggested he could come here. Unfortunately he had no much luck with his runners with most of the races going the way of the favourites except in the Cup where he came second.

There were a couple of close finishes too to keep the crowd excited.

The Cup was the 9th race and had a full field of 13. The winner Desert Glow, trained locally by Rob Gulberti, got a perfect ride from jockey Peter Hall to gain the top prize.

Everyone on the track did their best to make sure the racegoers had a good experience and many of the interstate visitors were saying they would be back next year.

For the record Devlish Intent was second and Rive Gauche third.
