Almond Eye takes Triple Crown

3 minute read

Winning the Shuka Sho at Kyoto on Sunday gave the filly Almond Eye the female Triple Crown, one of only five horses to do so.

She did not have the best of starts but when Christophe Lemaire took her round the field coming round the final turn, she let down and showed why she is a champion, overtaking all the field including the leader Mikki Charm who had to settle for second with a margin of 1 ½ lengths. Third home was Cantabile and then Salacia. Disappointing run from Lucky Lilac.

Almond Eye was second in her first start but has won the next five starts. She’s by Lord Kanaloa out of the Sunday Siilence mare Fusaichi Pandora.

On Saturday the Tokyo Fuchu Himba went to last year’s Shuka Sho winner Deidre, with Lys Gracieux second and Frontier Queen on 21.5 third. Crocosima finished fifth and disappointment again from Soul Stirring who must have something wrong as she’s better than what she showed on Saturday.
