Derby Day 2018

3 minute read

The best day of racing on the Australian calendar and there are still a number of internationals involved.

Several of these are involved in the Lexus Stakes and will need to win to get into the Cup next Tuesday. The best of these is probably A Prince of Arran who was third in the Herbert Power and is on 4.00.

Jaameh has now been in Australia with the B&D Hayes Dabernik stable for the last year - he's 4.40.

Brimham Rocks is by Fastnet Rock out of an Authorised mare and was transferred from Ralph Becket to Chris Waller in October 2017. He's on 5.20.

Gallic Chieftain is French bred and came from François Rohaut to the Weir stables in 2016. So go on his current form. He's 18.50.

And finally Sole Impact who is of course by Deep Impact but so far he's not been able to show his sire's brilliance. While the aim was the Cup, he would have to win here and even the skills of Hugh Bowman may not be enough - 30.00 says it all.

The Kennedy Mile also has attracted a number of runners born far from these shores with the more recent arrivals being Fastnet Tempest and Best of Days who arrived this year. Fastnet Tempest is by Fastnet Rock and has run second in his two latest outings. He's on 21.00 but not the roughest. Best Of Days is by Azamour out of a High Chaparral mare. When he was with Hugo Palmer there was a question over breathing problems but it was no doubt sorted in order for him to come here - he's quite versatile and is on 11.00.
