A rainy Singapore Gold Cup

3 minute read

Singapore's big day was somewhat dampened by quite steady rain and the track was rated as "yielding".

However racing goes on and the track condition did not seem to affect many of the runners, although in the HKJC Trophy the lighter-weighted mares finished 1-2. Makanana was being aimed for the Cup but failed to make the cut and was obviously a top-rated runner here as was What's New who started favourite. What's New took the lead near the post but Makanani produced an excellent final burst and got the result by a length. Golazo ran third.

The Cup saw Mark Walker chalk up his 500th win in Singapore when Elite Invincible gave the trained and jockey their first Gold Cup win. Only a head separated the winner from the second horse, Circuit Land, who ran a blinder with stablemate Mr Clint behind him in third. Favourite King Louis was arguably disappointing but an even worse result for Le Grange was the loss of Noah From Goa who broke down and suffered a terminal injury.
