The Stronach Group has announced a ban on raceday medication of horses running on their California tracks - Santa Anita and Golden Gate Park.
This announcement comes in the wake of the closure of Santa Anita following the deaths of 22 horses on the track this season.
Furosemide, or Lasix, commonly used in North America will be banned from raceday use, following the standard of the International Federation of Horse Racing Authorities.
There will also be an increase in the ban on "legal thereapuetic nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, joint injections, shockwave therapy and anabolic steroids".
Out-of-competition testing will be increased and the time horses have to be on site prior to a race will be increased and horses in training only allowed therapeutic medication with a qualified veterinary diagnosis.
They are also looking at whips in response to concerns raised on this topic.
