New names heading for Kentucky 2019

3 minute read

As a result of the Fairgrounds Oaks and the Louisiana Derby winners getting 100 points, some new names will be off to Kentucky.

The Fairgrounds Oaks went to the Larry Jones trained Street Band ridden by Sophie Doyle (sister of James, daughter of Jackie) who started at 10/1. Favourite Serengeti Empress bled and was out of the race and Liora took charge of the race until Street Band came charging down the outside and won by 3 3/4 lengths. Sweet Diane was third and Eres Tu fourth. So Street Band is off to Churchill Downs.

Also heading to Churchill Downs is By My Standards who won the Derby at 22/1. Spinoff and Sueno followed and then Country House was fourth. Favourite War Of Will seems to have slipped not far out of the gates and lost his action.

Earlier the New Orleans Handicap went to Core Beliefs 9/1 with Silver Dust second and Lone Sailor third. Copper Bullet started favourite and was unplaced.

Bricks And Mortar ran like a favourite should to win the Muniz Memorial over 1800m on the turf, although it was a close call with the second Markitoff on 63/1 came within a nose of victory and Synchrony took third spot.
