Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby) 2019.

3 minute read

It looks like it will be a lovely sunny day in Tokyo for the running of the G1 Japanese Derby over the 2400m Fuchu track.

Damian Lane who is having a dream season in Japan has the mount on Saturnalia who will start as a hot favourite on 1.6.  The son of Lord Kanaloa and the wonderful mare Cesario has done nothing wrong to date and looks to be an exciting prospect for today and onwards.  He has the first leg of the Triple Crown and looks highly likely to get the second.

Velox and Danon Kingly were second and third to Saturnalia in the Satsuki Sho (2000 Guineas) and are 5.3 and 5.0 on the Morning Line.  They are the top 3 in the market.

There is a bit of a gap to the next quotes which go to Run For The Roses on 22.5 who was second in the Aoba Show (Derby Trial) and 44.3 for Lion Lion who won that race and one who is definitely going in our multiples.  Admire Justa on 24.9 also comes into calculation after some good runs and he’s on 24.9.

To round of the day we have the G2 Meguro Kinen and in this we have two Aussie jockeys riding – Damian Lane will be on Look Twice on 9.3 and Brenton Avdulla will be on Ice Bubble 11.6.  Blast Onepiece is favourite here – the winner of the Arima Kinen at his last outing has won his last three and is on 2.0.  Muito Obrigado hasn’t quite come up to the heights that looked likely earlier in his career but he’s probably at the right level here and has Yutaka Take in the irons so gets 7.0 as a quote.
