Prix Jockey Club at Chantilly

3 minute read

There’s also three G2s and a G3 in a very rich afternoon of racing.

The Jockey Club (French Derby) has 15 runners and apart from Persian King, favourite at 6/4, the rest is very open with the usual difference in quotes between what is expected in France and the UK.  Persian King, for Andre Fabre and P-C Boudot, is the clear favourite in both markets.  Raise You and Surfman are around 8/1 in the UK but much higher in France and Slalom and Motamarris come next in France.  We like Persian King – he’s very talented and we have a roughie here in Zarkallani for Alain du Royer-Dupre and Christoph Soumillon on 20/1.

This Derby is over 2100m – the distance changed a few years ago from the normal classic trip of 2400m.

We have the French markets only so far for the other races.

The Prix Sandringham is for 3yo fillies and is over 1600m with 7 running.  Obligate for Pascal Bary and P-C Boudot is on 2.00 and then we like Matematica for Carlos Laffon-Parias and Maxime Guyon.

The Prix Gros-Chêne is over 1000m and only has 5 runners. Fabre’s Inns of Court is odds-on here and the most likely challenger Sastilio Jet is on 4.5.

The Grand-Prix de Chantilly is over 2400m for 4yo+ and has 7 starters.  Silverware is the stand-out here on 2.75 with Folamour next best on 4.50.

After the Derby we have the G3 Prix Royaumont for the 3yo fillies over 2400m.  Quite open but the possible prices in France are 3.50 for Dariyza, 4.00 for Pelligrina and 5.00 for Eliarde.
