It’s the Stephen Foster day at Churchill but Maximum Security will not be there.
After his dramatic sacking in the Kentucky Derby the 3yo super-star is in Monmouth where he will start as a hot favourite in the Pegasus on Sunday which will have a field of 5. 5 seems a good number as he has finished first over the line in 5 starts to date.
At Churchill Downs on Saturday there are three Grade 2 races starting with the Wise Dan over 1700m on the turf which has a field of 14 and 1 emergency. It’s a wide open race with 5/1 available for Itsinthepost and Admissionoffice, and 6/1 for March to the Arch and Cullum Road.
The Fleur de Lis is over 1800m 3+ f&m and a field of 6. Elate is 8/5 in the Morning Line with what could be a big day for Bill Mott. She’s a Julie and the Argentinian-bred Blue Prize are on 2/1.
The Stephen Foster is over 1700m for the 3+ with a field of 12 to run. John Sadler saddles Gift Box with Joel Rosario on board and they have a quote of 3/1. China Horse Club’s Japanese-bred Yoshida (Heart’s Cry) is 7/2 for Mott-Ortiz, Chuck Fipke’s homebred Seeking the Soul is 4/1 for Dallas Stewart and John Velazquez and Tom’s d’Etat is 5/1.
It’s Fathers’ Day on Sunday and at Monmouth they are giving free entry to the guys!
