Prix de Diane 2019

3 minute read

All roads will lead to Chantilly for the running of the G1 Prix de Diane or French Oaks.

There's some good racing on the undercard although the small fields have to be a disappointment.  The going is expected to be soft.

First off is the Paul de Moussac G3 over 1600m which has a field of 7.  The two most likely seem to be Freddy Head's Anodor 2/1 and the Gosden raider Azano 7/2.

The Prix Hocquart is G2 for the 3yos over 2400m with only 5 runners.  Godolphin's Fabre runner Khagan is on 2/1 and Soft Light 5/2.

The Diane at least has a decent field with 14 runners.  J-C Rouget saddles four of them in an effort to win the Derby-Oaks double.  His Commes has three seconds in the last 3 outings and would obviously hope to go one better here with Derby winning jockey Cristian Demuro in the irons.  He also has Etoile 8/1 woith Mikael Barzalona riding and Cartiem with Jspan-based jockey Christophe Lemaire on board.  16/1 looks value here for a horse that has won 3 of her four starts.

Siyarafina will start favourite on 11/8.  The Aga Khan's filly trained by Alain de Royer-Dupre with Christophe Soumillon riding has done nothing wrong so far and comes into this unbeaten.

Two raiders on 12/1 are Entitle for Gosden-Dettori and Nausha for Varian Doyle.  Watch the betting.

And an interesting roughie is Amarena trained by Kobayashi-sensei with Japanese ace jockey Yutaka Take riding - 20/1 looks good for this unbeaten filly.

The get-out is no get-out as there are only 5 runners in the G3 Prix Bertrand de Breuil for the 4y+ over 1600m.  Trais Fleurs ran third in the Ispahan which is G1 so this looks like a confidence booster but 11/10?  Try and each way on Geniale - another Kobayashi runner with Take riding.
