Ascot 2019 Friday

3 minute read

Can Dettori do it again or will the Irish come roaring home?

There will be 25 2yo fillies lining up in the G3 Albany, over the 1200m.  Many of these have won on debut so it is quite a lottery however the market makers have selected Daahyef from Roger Varian's yard with David Egan riding as the top chance on 9/2.  After her comes one of the two American raiders under the tutelage of Wesley Ward Nayibeth, who will be ridden by Joel Rosario and is around 5/1, and Chili Petin on 12/1 with John Velazques riding.

In between Last Surprise for Simon Crisford and Frankie Dettori and on that same figure a filly we like a lot, So Wonderful, for Aidan and Donnacha O'Brien.

It could be a big day for Coolmore with Derby third Japan on Evens in the Edward VII G2 for 3yo c&g over 2000m.  There are 8 starters here and next in the market is the Gosden-Dettori runner Private Secretary.  James Fanshawe has booked Oisin Murphy for the ride on Pondus and they are around 11/2, and then a gap to Pablo Escobar, 11/1, with James Doyle riding for William Haggas.

The Commonwealth Cup is the first of the G1s and is over 1200m with a field of 9.  Ten Sovereigns is a wonderful horse and comes into this as favourite on 5/4.  Simon Crisford saddles Jash, which as he is owner by Sheik Hamdan has Jim Crowley riding and they are on 5/1.  Hello Youmzain is 6.1 for the Kevins – Ryan and Stott, and Advertise 7/1 for Noel Meade and Frankie Dettori.

The Coronation Stakes stars the winner of the UK-Irish 1000 Guineas double Hermosa, who is beautiful by name and nature.  As usual Ryan Moore will ride for Aidan O'Brien.  Jubiloso is showing potential for Sir Michael Stoute and he's got James McDonald on board – they are 9/2.  French 1000 Guineas winner on soft ground Castle Lady for H-A Pantall will have Mikael Barzalona on board amd they are on 15/2 and our quite rough roughie is Pretty Pollyanna for Michael Bell and Silvestre de Souza and 12/1 is available.
