That was Hong Kong racing 2018-2019

There may be some problems with the turnover but we still had some great races throughout the season which ended on Sunday.

Our stand-out for the year is jockey Zac Purton who keeps on progressing and keeps on winning. So what if he didn't beat Moreira's record for wins in the season? He still had an exceptional year and it has been great watching his progress over the years.  If not the best he is one of the best jockeys anywhere in the world at present.

John Size secured the trainers' championship for the 11th time just pipping John Moore. Both are exceptional trainers and the HKJC should think seriously about their age limit for trainers – it's ridiculous and has no bearing on their ability to train horses.

Beauty Generation was the horse of the year and the most admired overseas horse was Winx.

Vincent Ho was a worthy recipient of the Tony Cruz medal and Douglas Whyte received a lifetime achievement award.

As for the races on closing day, the Sha Tin Mile Trophy went to the Brazilian-bred 5yo bay gelding Harmony Victory from Time To Celebrate and Ka Ying Star. The last race went to a roughie – Fast Most Furious who defeated Glorious Spectrum and our roughie Elusive State so we managed a modest get-out on the last get out.
