Irish Oaks 2019

3 minute read

There are 10 lovely ladies lined up for this 3yo classic at the Curragh on Saturday.

It's over 2400m and favouritism looks to be between O'Brien père's Pink Dogwood and O'Brien fils Iridessa.  Pink Dogwood wasn't all that convincing at her last outing and unless she was holding back Iridessa could get the better of her here.

The raider here is Star Catcher on 4/1 for Gosden-Dettori and we have a roughie here in the form of Peach Tree, also from Aidan O'Brien's yard with Seamie Heffernan riding and what looks like a very generous quote of 50/1 if you can get it.  She did nothing at Ascot but has come back to win a Listed since then.

Before the T1 we have the G3 Anglesey Stakes for the 2yos over 1300m and a field of 7.  Coolmore has Pistoleto with Ryan Moore on board and a quote of 8/11 with stablemate Mount Fuji 0n 6/1 with Donacha riding.

The Minstrel G2 is over 1400m and has a field of 10.  The Minstrel was one of our favourites in his day – a beautiful horse.  This year's field is headed by Romanised Condon-Lee on 2/1, and Hey Gaman on 11/4 for James Tate and Frankie Dettori.  We like Gordon Lord Byron here on his home track, with the veteran on 16/1 but he is such a fighter and so honest and this is his trip that we reckon he's good for a bit of the each-way.

Going is good to form with the weather partly cloudy but no rain forecast.
