Star Catcher catches Irish Oaks

3 minute read

Under a top ride from Frankie Dettori, the Gosden trained filly Star Catcher led from the front to add this classic to his trainer's previous 2.

Star Catcher is steadily improving with every run and here the only real challenger was Fleeting but the winner was able to resist the fast-closing Fleetwood and found the extra needed to cross the line first.

Favourite Pink Dogwood was 4 ½ lengths behind those two and Iridessa did nothing.

Earlier Michael Halford's Roman Turbo won the Anglesey from Lil Grey with favourite Pistoleto at the wrong end of the 7 horse field.

Romanised took out the Minstrel with Hey Gaman second and the old boy Gordon Lord Byron fourth.

Sunday sees the running of the Sapphire Stakes G2 for the 3yos over 1000m.  Soldier's Call is on top here on but what a day for a horse called El Astronaute to feature – he's won here before and is on 10/3.  Equilateral 4/1 is also a possible.

The G2 Kilboy Estates G2 for the f&m over 1800m has Red Tea on 9/4 for the O'Brien brothers Joseph and Donnacha.  Goddess for Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore is on 7/2 and stablemate Coral Beach 5/1.
