The 7 day Galway Festival started on Monday.
The highlight was the Connacht Hotel Handicap over 3400m for amateur riders with 20 horses lining up. Not surprisingly the win went to Willie Mullins as he had 4 running here but a bit of a surprise in that it went to Great White Shark on 8/1, ridden by Miss J Townend. Dermot Weld got the second spot with Dalton Highway 20/1 (always follow DKW at Galway) with Litterale Ci 20/1 third and fav Mr Adjudicator fourth (1st 4 paid with a field of 20).
There's another big field -18- in Tuesday's feature the Mile Handicap, which is a Premier Handicap over the extended mile. A British raider hasn't won this for 40 years and Mark Johnston is sending over Rufus King "as he has an Irish owner". He's 9/1. They will pay 1-4 here so he could have a chance.
Weld has Jassaar here who is on top on 3/1 ahead of the O'Brien brothers with Numerian on 4/1. Jessica Harrington has Only Human here with Shane Foley riding and Aidan O'Brien has Turnberry Isle 8/1 but he's drawn the carpark so Seamus Heffernan will have to get a dream run from the 3yo.
