York off to a flying start

3 minute read

Well the 2yo fillies were flying down the 1400m in the Acomb Wednesday.

And as suspected the horses with a couple more runs under their hooves were able to put that experience to good use.  Valdemorro defeated Harpocrates by a neck.  The latter had a clear lead for a while but seemed to get lost for a bit which gave Valdemorro the chance to catch up and pass him.  Ropey Guest 25/1 was third.

The Great Voltigeur saw a worthy winner in Logician who maintained his unbeaten record for Gosden-Dettori.  Constantinople was second home in the 5 horse race.

The Juddmonte International saw Crystal Ocean just get pipped again – this time by Japan.  He's a 3yo who is improving with every run and of course had a weight advantage.   They will probably head to the Arc, as will Enable. Crystal Ocean had a tough run at his previous outing so will appreciate the rest in between.

Thursday's card starts off with the G2 Lowther for the 2yo fillies over 1200 with 10 scheduled to line up.  John Quinn's Liberty Beach has ticked all the boxes to date and looks the best prospect here on 13/8.  Under The Stars 4/1 is useful and Precious Moments has so far been uneven but is talented and could show up here on 8/1.

And of course the race that many aficionados have been waiting for – The Yorkshire Oaks G1 where Enable will have her farewell race in England.  She is of course odds-on on 2/7 and we are not always keen on odds-on runners in G1 races however there are only 4 runners here so it is probably a no-brainer as she has beaten Magical 7/2 four times.  John Gosden is covering all outcomes when he says that the Arc is her ultimate goal.
