6 GR1s headed by the Travers is the menu for Saratoga Saturday.
It seems that not all of these races are worthy of the Gr 1 classification, but that is not our job – we just report on them.
The Forego is for 3ys over 1400m with 6 to run. Mitole is certainly worthy of a run in a Gr 1 and is 4/5 here. Promises Fulfilled is on 5/2 and we quite like Firenze Fire 7/2.
The Ballerina is for f&m 3y+ over 1400m and has 7 runners. Come Dancing is on 6/5 and Separationofpowers 9/5.
The Allen Jerkens is for 3yos over 1400 has 9 runners. Shancelot is around evens, Rowaylon 6/1 and Borracho (Spanish for drunk) is 8/1.
The Ballaston Spa is for 3y+ f&m over 1700m on the turf. Secret Message is on 3/1, Starship Jubilee 7/2, and French import Mascha is on 9/2.
The Personal Ensign is for f&m 3+ over 1800m and also has 6 starters with Midnight Bisou on 6/5 and Elate 7/5.
The Sword Dancer is for 4y+ over 2400m on the turf with 9 runners. Annals of Time is on 5/2 for Chad Brown and Javier Castellano, Channel Marker 3/1 Mott-Rosario, and Chilean bred and winner of the Latino-Emerican Ya Primo is on 7/2.
The Travers is over 2000m for 3yos with a field of 12. We have always been enthusiastic about Tacitus and he holds the call here on 5/2. Godolphin's Code of Honor is on 4/1 and on 6/1 you can find Tax, Mucho Gusto and Owendale, all of whom have good chances.
Meanwhile at Del Mar it's the Gr 2 Pat O'Brien with 7 runners going over the 1400m. Catalina Cruiser won this last year and is on 4/5, with Giant Expectations on 7/2.
