Australian Bloodstock scored a lucky break when they purchased Mustajeer before the Ebor meeting.
Trained by Ger Lyons and ridden by Colin Keane, Mustajeer improved on his 2018 4th placing by winning the new style Ebor and the Million Pounds at York. He will now go to Kris Lees with the aim of running in the Spring Carnival features.
The Ebor has taken on many of the trappings of a Melbourne-Cup style race with the introduction of the jockeys pre race.
There was no luck for the favoured runners Withhold and King's Advice with second going to Godolphin's Red Galileo 25/1, followed by Desert Skyline 25/1 and Raymond Tusk 16/1. The winner was on 16/1 so those who got the pick 4 are probably now on their round-the-world cruise.
The G3 Strensall went to Sir Michael Stoute's Zaaki with Ryan Moore in the irons, winning by a neck from Bangkok 7/1 with Space Traveller third on 10/1.
Laurens just got pipped in the City of York by Shine So Bright, King Power Racing's horse ridden by James Doyle in lieu of Silvestre de Sousa who suffered a broken collar bone and other injuries in a bad fall on Friday at Chelmsford. There was only a nose in it, with 2 lengths back to the third home Cape Byron.
