The Woodbine Mile

3 minute read

This is one of the major race days at the excellent Woodbine track, just outside Toronto.

There's a couple of very interesting raiders here too and that means raiders from further away than the USA.

The Canadian Stakes sponsored by the Japan Racing Association is for f&m 3+ on the turf over 1800m.  There are only 7 runners and it looks to be between Chad Brown's Competitionofideas and The Queen's Exceed and Excel Magnetic Charm, trained by Willie Haggas and ridden by Kazushi KImara.  They share favouritism on 3/1.

The Woodbine Mile is G1 for 3y+ on the turf with 11 runners. We like Got Stormy who recently won the Fourstar Dave at Saratoga and he's 7/2 for Mark Casse and Tyler Graffalone.  There are three sharing the 4/1 quote – Awesometank for Willie Haggas who recently ran a good second in the Beverly D, Raging Bull who was second to Got Stormy at Saratoga and Synchrony, who is a course and distance winner.

The Northern Dancer is another G1 on the turf over 2400m for 3y+ and has 6 runners, headed by Godolphin's Old Persian for Charlie Appleby and Jamie Spencer and he should be  too good for the others.  Probably best of the rest is Focus Group 11/4 if you fancy a quinella.
