Arc Trials at Longchamp Sunday

3 minute read

One of the nicest days of racing in the Parisian capital takes place on Sunday.

While two of the top three races are listed as G2s, they are over 2400m and unofficial G1s as all contenders are expected to line up in 3 weeks time.

The first to occur is the Prix Foy which has only got 4 runners but it is a beauty – Andre Fabre's Waldgeist is 8/11 and lines up alongside the Japanese star Kiseki.  Kiseki is trained by Sumii one of our favourite Japanese trainers and as a front runner they will have to catch him.  Soumillon has the ride.

The Prix Vermeille is the G1 and for f&m 3y+ and there will be 9 runners here. John Gosden is sending Anapurna, who will be ridden by Oisin Murphy, and Star Catcher with Frankie Dettori after another G1!  O'Brien has booked Soumillon for the ride on Pink Dogwood.

The Prix Niel is for 3yos and has only 5 runners headed by Sottsass who is on 4/5 with German Raider Quest The Moon on 5/1.

There are two useful G3 races for the future in the Prix du Petit Couvert is over 1000m and Clive Cox's Shades of Blue is on 4/1 with Sestilio Jet 5/1 and Glass Slippers 6/1.  The Prix du Pin is a very open affair for 3y+ over 1400m.  City Light is 3/1, Graignes 4/1, and our friend Andre Schutz has Lily Kafeine, a very talented horse, on 14/1.
