Shuka Sho in Kyoto

3 minute read

This is the third leg of the 3yo fillies triple crown but there will not be a winner of the title.

This is the start of the G1 series of races in Japan leading up to the Japan Cup in late November.  It is run over the tight Kyoto track which may not suit all the fillies.

Racing at Tokyo on Saturday and Sunday was cancelled because of the typhoon.  Saturday's meeting has been moved to Tuesday 15th and Sunday's to Mondday 21st.

The track is likely to be very heavy after the typhoon dumped plenty of water in Kyoto without a direct hit.  Few if any of the horses will have had experience of very wet tracks so while we give the top market choices it should be much more open than that.

There are 5 daughters of Deep Impact running here and one of them Danon Fantasy tops the market on 3.1.  She was the top 2yo filly last year and recently showed good form in winning the Rose Stakes.  She will be partnered by her regular jockey Yuga Kawada.

Espoir, a daughter of our beloved Orfevre, comes from the strong Sumii stable and will be partnered by Andrash Starke.  They are on 7.6.

Not much between the next three: Rose Tesoro is by Heart's Cry and go on her run in Niigata in August – 9.3 in the Morning Line; Curren Bouquetd'Or is another Deep Impact daughter who caught the eye in the Oaks and is a consistent money earner also on 9.3, and Contra Check, a speedy Deep Impact filly, will have Christophe Lemaire in the irons and they are on 9.5.
