Qatar Derby Weekend 2019

3 minute read

There's the Qatar Oaks G3 on Friday and the Qatar Derby G2 on Saturday.

Several of the runners in both events have come from Ireland, France and the UK with a varied amount of exposure to local conditions.

In Friday's Oaks Luchador looks like she may start favourite as won the Umm Salai Oaks Trial recently over 1850m.  Queen Shaad was second in this race and will be trying to reverse the order of finish.

Cruella Davil had good form in Ireland but this is her first start here.  Ex Miss and Gold Fleece much the same, and Manorah, the ride of Silvestre de Sousa, ran OK in the UK and was recently 4th over 2400m which could put her in calculations.

On Saturday the Derby G2 is over 2000m and Andrew Balding has sent out King Power Racing's Bangkok, who looks to have an excellent chance.  Admiral Rous won 3 starts in France and was 3rd in a G3, and Alwaak moved from Andre Fabre to Fabrice Chappet and has had two wins including a Listed in August.  Markhar is a Frankel colt of whom much is expected.  We shall see.
