It's Boxing Day

3 minute read

And that means Kempton if you are in England and Leopardstown if you are in Ireland.

Kempton of course means the King George but that's just one of the 3 Grade 1 races on offer.

There is the possibility of rain which is not so good as the ground is already on the softish side but here we go.  The Kauto Star Novices' Chase has 7 runners with Colin Tizzard's Slate House on 5/2 with Robbie Power riding.  There's not much between the top three and Black Op is on 3/1 – he's won over the trip – as is Master Tommytacker who hails from the powerful Willie Mullins yards.

The Christmas Hurdle has 10 runners and Nicky Henderson saddles the first three in the market – Fusil Raffles 2/1, and Epatante and Verdana Blue both on 9/2.  We have a bit of a roughie here – e/w 10/1 Ch'tibello for the Skeltons D & H.

And the King George itself – only 6 runners and the name on most people's lips has been Cyrname who is on 6/4 for Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden.  Footpad is back from injury and seems to be getting back to his old self so the 10/1 looks generous.  Barry Gerraghty rides for Willie Mullins here as Footpad goes for his 7th Gr1.

Over at Leopardstown the Racing Post Novice Chase has 5 runners with Laurine on evens for Mullins-Townend and Fakir d'Oudairies expected to provide strong opposition with Mark Walsh riding for Joseph O'Brien.
