Clan des Obeaux achieved the rare feat of consecutive King George wins at Kempton on Boxing Day.
We were delighted when a horse called Fred one the first race. With so many complex names floating around it was good to see one simply called Fred not only appear but also win. Turns out that trainer Nicky Henderson had bought a new horse box and Fred was to get the first ride in it so he had return the favour.
The Kauto Star saw Colin Tizzard's Slate House oblige under a top ride from Robbie Power. Black Op was 1 ¼ lengths away second and the rest who finished were way back.
Nicky Henderson's Epatante was the best of his trio and won the Christmas Hurdle from Silver Streak 11/1 and Ballydane 14/1. Verdana Blue and Ch'Tibello were the next two home. Favourite Fusil Raffles was pulled up.
And on to the King George – Clan des Obeaux was way to good for the other runners and won by 21 lengths from Cyrname and Footpad. On to Cheltenham for the winner.
