The DWC Carnival leading up to Dubai World Cup night got underway at Meydan on Thursday.

Feature was the G3 Dubawi Stakes over 1200m, a prep for the Golden Shaheen on Cup night.

For the 6th time a horse trained by Satish Seemar won - this year it was the turn of Gladiator King, a Curlin product, ridden by Mikael Barzalona.

They defeated Ibn Malik who put in a spirited challenge only to finish a neck short, and favourite Drafted.

All three will probably now go to the Al Shindagha in four weeks time.

The 1000 Guineas trial saw Godolphin's Final Song win by 1 3/4 lengths in her first run on the dirt.  Trainer Saeed bin Suroor and jockey Christophe Soumillon were full of praise for the filly who coped with the kick back and having to run wide for much of the race.
