Drug free Pegasus

3 minute read

While the winners were admirable the most admirable feature of this year's Pegasus races is that they were drug free.

The Turf saw a great finish with Magic Wand as usual running her heart out but Zulu Alpha got through on the rails to steal the win.  Instilled Regard was third with favourite Without Parole not a factor despite having Frankie Dettori on board and the fancied Mo Forza also not involved in the finish.

The Pegasus World Cup saw Bob Baffert's Mucho Gusto get the victory and the trip to Saudi Arabia, with second going to Mr Freeze on 7/1 and third to War Story on 15/1.  It was indeed a very open race.

Over at Santa Anita Captain Scotty showed his enthusiasm for returning to the dirt with a wire to wire win in the G2 Palos Verdes, defeating favourite Flagstaff.

News from the US tells that Ahmed Zayed and Zayed Stables are in some trouble as there has been a court action to put in a receiver in connection with a claim for a non-payment of a loan purported to be around US$23 millions.  Egyptian-born Zayed bred and raced American Pharoah, and some of the claim is connected with the breeding rights that the Zayed family retained although the horse was sold to Godolphin.
