Balanchine at Meydan Thursday

3 minute read

The G2 over 1800m turf and follows on from the Cape Verdi for the girls.

A number of the Cape Verdi field reappear here including Magic Lily who won that race and this time will have William Buick in the irons.  They are on 6/5.  Nisreen was only a nose away in second and with Pierre-Charles Boudot coming out from France to ride her again she's on 5/2.  Surrounding is a consistent mare from the Mick Halford yard and will appreciate the extra distance here and is on 11/2.  Appleby saddles Divine Image as well as Magic Lily and with James Doyle riding she's on 6/1.  She didn't run in the Cape Verdi but her CV includes the 2019 UAE Oaks.

The Firebreak is G3 on dirt over 1800m and is intriguing.  Muntazah won this last year and has broken the trip record since then and may be joint favourite with Capezzano who is very talented but has been off the track since last March with a leg problem.  His trainer bin Ghadayer also saddles Matterhorn on 11/2, and Doug Watson saddles Quip in addition to Muntazah and he's on 6/1.  Not the roughest Jane Chapple-Hyam's Ambassadorial ran in Korea last year and ran a very nice second in his first up this season here.  20/1 is certainly good value.
