Have saddle will travel

That could well be the motto for young English Jockey Tom Marquand.

Jockey : Tom Marquand Picture: RacingandSports

He's currently in Doha riding in the prestigious Amir Sword Festival after just finishing a six week stint in Australia.

Not only that he is going to return to Australia on 14rh March with high hopes for rides in the Sydney Carnival.

Tom has managed to fit quite a lot of travel into his 21 years.  While his family isn't a traditional racing family they do enjoy racing as a spectator sport and particularly when Tom is riding.  He started off in pony racing and continued up until he was apprenticed to Richard Hannon – senior to start with and junior from then on.  He still has very close connections with the Hannon yard.

In Australia the connection came from meeting John O'Shea in England and he is very grateful for all the support O'Shea has given him and will be working a lot with him on his return to Australia.

There is a very international feel about racing in Qatar and Tom is enjoying the company of the other jockeys who come from all corners of the globe as do the trainers.

So with a good book of rides for this few days he is hoping that some of the luck the accompanied him during his time in Australia will continue here.
